| Jump Rope for Heart
Our third graders will be attending a school assembly to kickoff our Jump Rope for Heart Program on Wednesday, November 18. The children will see a demonstration and be given information about this program. If families choose to participate in this fundraiser, the pledge money is due Monday, November 23.
RIF
On Tuesday, Nov. 17, the children will be going to our school library to select a book of their choice provided by the Reading is Fundamental Program. Thank you to our RIF parent volunteers who have preselected the titles and organized this event for our school. What a delight to see the students bury their noses into the pages of their book they can't wait to read!
School Picture Retakes
Friday, Nov. 20, the photographer will be here to do picture retakes in Room 201.
Art Adventure Program beginning Nov. 3
A note from Courtney, our Art Teacher... " The Art Adventure series with the Minneapolis Art Institute is starting November 3. It introduces students to works of art from a variety of cultures. Trained school volunteers visit classrooms with posters of art relating to a common theme. Our theme in November will be People and Their Environments. The Institute's website, www.artsmia.org, has a drop down under Education...Art Adventure with all the art work to be presented." Thanks, Courtney!
Dress for the Weather
As we are really living up to the notion of "Minnesota Weather" this year, please be sure to send your third grader with the clothes that will keep them warm and dry at recess. The way it's been going, this could mean snow pants, boots, and a heavy winter coat, or sneakers and a light jacket. We do intend to head outside most every day, so thank you in advance for having your third grader ready for the elements!
Math
Students have completed the lessons in Unit 3, Linear Measures and Area. The results of the test will be sent with your child after all testing is completed. Our pretest for Unit 4, Multiplication and Division will be given on Monday, Nov.16. The first lessons are about multiples of even groups, arrays, and equal shares and equal groups. We are working to achieve 100% or improve the scores in our timed fact tests. Presently, we are working in addition and subtraction. Students need to practice these facts at home as well as in school. We will discuss some strategies to master these important facts.
Nut Free Snacks in Third Grade
Thank you for providing nut free healthy snacks for community snacks and for your child's snack.
Word Masters
We now have our first list for the Word Masters Challenge. The Challenge is an analogy-solving contest. Word Masters will help students to expand their knowledge of words and grow their vocabularies. To begin, students will learn definitions, synonyms and antonyms for these words. The first challenge will be on or around December 7.
Our first word list includes: cloudburst, glide, fragile, rind, bleat, halting, core, stammer, awkward, gust, stumble, drowsy, pulp, extinguish, frisky, trench, creep, delicate, whimper, crumple, weary, mist, trudge, graceful and pit.
