My name is Susan Fredrickson and I am deeply committed to public education. In 5th grade we are diligently strengthening our comprehension skills and knowledge in Reader's Workshop through non-fiction texts, implementing detailed articulation with foundational mechanics in Writer's Workshop and exploring algorithms in Number and Operation, Geometry and Measurement, Algebra and Data Analysis. Students utilize voice and choice by understanding where their individual areas of growth are and establishing self-directed attainable goals with needed support to reach their highest potential.
Not only do I believe in challenging each student to strive toward their highest academic potential, I also believe in encouraging each one to claim and act on their unconditional value as they prepare for middle school.
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
― Benjamin Franklin
I have taught 6th, 5th and 2nd grades during my tenure in the Saint Paul Public School District. Through the University of Minnesota I received a Bachelor of Science. From Bethel University a Masters and from the University of Saint Thomas my teaching license and a Masters. In 2007 I received a Fulbright Scholarship to Japan and a 2011 Fund for Teachers grant to Costa Rica. When I am not teaching international travel is on my list of Must Do. I have visited over twenty countries and have been to all but three continents. A close second to international travel are Golden Retrievers. Walking in the woods, visiting friends and bike riding are other enjoyments.
Working together to master core academic standards, enriching our lives with compassion and kindness toward others, while highlighting individual accountability are our community goals.
