Hello, my name is Tari Hella-Yelk and I am so excited to be part of the 5th grade team as well as the St. Anthony Park School community full of long-standing traditions. This is my eighteenth year of teaching, fifiteen of which have been in the district. I have a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from UW-Eau Claire and a Bachelor's Degree also in Elementary Education from UMN-Duluth.
I grew up in Fargo, ND and currently live in St. Paul with my partner (Art Specialist in SPPS) and two children (5th & 10th grades in SPPS). One of our favorite things to do is spend time at Pelican Lake, where I grew up in the summers as a child, and now enjoy with my extended family. I also enjoy reading, biking, stand-up paddleboarding, outdoor photography, kayaking, drinking lattes, shopping, walking/running, spending time with friends & family, and writing in my Writer's Notebook.
We are housed in the "rooftop suites" on the 2nd floor along with science, art, MLL office (multi-language learners), and volunteer coordinator/AmeriCorp staff. Our focus is on the Common Core Standards paired with specialities & enrichment of physical education, music, science, art, and technology integration. We practice social skills through the Responsive Classroom model to build compassionate, engaged, mindful, critical thinkers & learners. We incorporate Culturally Responsive Teaching strategies with the 4 R's, rigor, relevance, realness, and relationships. I believe all children can learn and am honored to part of their journey as lifelong learners.
I look forward to our partnership throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me at 651.293.8735 (main office) or via e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
