Hello!  Konnichiwa!  “Variety is the Spice of Life!” is the best way to sum up my attitude and my experiences in education.  I began my teaching career as an intern for the Multicultural Education Project at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.  The focus of this federally-funded program was on fostering true appreciation of diversity.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, I had the opportunity to live, travel, and teach in Japan.  To be immersed in another culture and language ~What a wonderful window to our world!

In the fall of 1989, I was hired as a teacher for Saint Paul Public Schools.  In 1997, I earned my Master of Arts degree in K-12 Curriculum & Instruction from the University of St. Thomas. My area of concentration was Gifted/Creative/Talented Education and my final integrative project was on meeting the needs of our twice-exceptional students.

During my 27 years in education, I have thoroughly enjoyed roles as a classroom teacher, ELL teacher, gifted and talented coordinator, curriculum specialist, mentor, and presenter.   Even though each role has its own flavor, they all have a common theme:  Honoring the whole child and the diverse cultures, gifts, and talents that each student brings to learning.

The children of SAP are delightful!  As a whole, they are smart, focused, kind, collaborative, and highly inquisitive.  We crafted an interdisciplinary prep course called Active Inquiry to meet the needs of our remarkably capable and creative K-2 children.

Our school partners with the Minnesota School Forest Program to find creative ways to use our school yard as an outdoor classroom.  It is such a privilege and a joy to connect our children to the natural world for learning and exploration.
