The Ordway: We have a fantastic opportunity to attend THREE multicultural performances at the Ordway Theater in downtown St. Paul! Oct. 30, 2009 10:30 Bad Boys of Dance Feb. 18, 2010 10:30 DanceBrazil Mar. 25, 2010 10:30 Diavolo
Planetarium: Our district provides the opportunity for every elementary school child to attend our district planetarium once or twice per year. Our lessons are linked with our science curriculum to focus on phases of the moon and A.M./P.M.
Public Library: We take walking field trips every third week to the St. Anthony Park Branch of St. Paul Public Library just up the street. The staff reads with us, and sometimes there's even | | Projector at the planetarium | a puppet show! Each child has a chance to check out books as long as their library account is in good standing. The library does not impose fines on children's books, so it is fine to wait until we go the next time to return books, otherwise you are free to visit and return on your own.
Ice Skating: Every winter, we take an annual trip down the street to Langford Park for a morning | | The Minneapolis Institute of Arts | of skating! Physical activity is very important to our health.
Minneapolis Institute of Arts: Our art teacher, Courtney Oleen, arranges for us to visit the museum after we've enjoyed the four week long Art Adventures curriculum here at school. It is amazing to see world-class art first hand, and trained docents accompany our class.
Children's Museum: The Children's Museum | | Awesome time at the Saints Game! | is linked to our social studies curriculum. We receive a science themed "district created trunk" to enhance the process of getting an understanding of how insect life continues in a cycle. At the end of the unit we'll be visiting the Minnesota Children's Museum. This 2-hour visit includes a 45 minute class called Insect Life as well as time to explore in the six hands-on galleries.
District | | At the Saints! | Kitchen: Along with our social studies unit on communities is a trip to our district kitchen, just up the street at 1930 Como Ave. We have a chance to see the huge mixers, vats and ovens where our healthy food is made - the highlight of the trip every year is getting to go into the HUGE freezers - bigger than our classrooms!!
St. Paul Saints Baseball Game: As part of the reward | | Mr. Carl and his buddies enjoy the day | for reading hard all year, in the spring we get to attend a Saints Game during school hours!!! Read those books!
We are asking for a $25 contribution this year in order to cover the ticket and busing costs of all these field trips. Checks can be made out to SAPSA with 2nd grade in the memo line. Thank you!
