Art Adventures with Minneapolis Institute of Art in November
Hi, Below is a little synopsis of the program for anyone not familiar. The Art Adventure Program at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts brings reproductions of works of art that can’t leave the museum into elementary school classrooms. Trained school volunteers visit classrooms with posters of art relating to a common theme, such animals, celebrations, or relationships. Things to Consider: • Art Adventure is designed for K-6 classrooms. • Art Adventure reproduction sets circulate for one or two months. Cost is $50 per set/per month. Set reservations begin in April for the following school year. • Every school must have a designated coordinator, often a volunteer position. This person will serve as the main contact for the school. • Each school must have at least six volunteer presenters (known as “Picture People”). • Before giving classroom presentations, school volunteers attend Picture Person Training at the museum. Training is considered mandatory. Training sessions are offered throughout the school year, either during the day or on Thursday evenings. Art Adventure Sets Each of the ten Art Adventure themes features eight works of art in sturdy poster-sized reproductions. A prop kit (additional touch items and contextual photographs) accompanies each set. Amazing Animals in Art, Family Friends and Foes, American Art Sampler, How People Lived, Artists’ Inspirations, Let’s Celebrate Life , Cultural Reflections in Art, People and Their Environments, Dressed for the Occasion, Sources of Strength

The spring 2008 biannual publication for Art Adventure volunteers headlined St. Anthony Park School and featured our mural project. Students, staff and volunteers undertook a huge art project last spring and finished in the fall of 2008. Special acknowledgement goes to Holly Jordan, artist and parent who with inspiration and devotion to a beautiful vision brought this wonderful piece of art art to our school.
