Principal Lynn Pham

  • After years as a district administrator at Saint Paul Public Schools, Lynn Pham said she’s excited for the 2015-16 school year and her new job as principal at Highwood Hills Elementary, where she’ll have daily interaction with students again.

“I am a lifelong learner who is excited to learn from others,” Pham said.

Her motivation for learning started watching her father teach math in Vietnam. After fleeing the Vietnam War and living in a refugee camp, her family moved to the United States.

Her parents stressed the importance of higher education and seizing opportunities.

Pham will strive to be a principal who is a true agent of change, creates a community of good citizens and makes an impact on children and families. As a person of color in a leadership role, she also wants to be a model for students.

“I want children to see people who look similar to them, to motivate them to look and say, ‘She can do it, and she’s walked in my shoes,’” Pham said.

Growing up in a refugee family, Pham believes her experiences will help her understand the obstacles facing families who are new to the country. She hopes to create trusting relationships with families at her new school, and she plans to listen and engage multiple perspectives to ensure a successful school year.

“My job is to listen to where the school is at, and to create the necessary plan for improving the culture and climate of the school,” Pham said. “Meeting the students and families is what I am most excited about for the new school year.”
