Spring is in the air! Langford Lake returned earlier than usual this year. At school we are loving the warm weather, struggling with mud, and excited about the adventures ahead. Check out our school website, stanthony.spps.org, for a calendar of events. (While online, look for the “FMP” inside an orange circle, for images of the school expansion project.)
With spring comes state testing season. Our English learners are finishing ACCESS exams in reading, writing, listening and speaking (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State). Students in grades 3-5 are prepping for math, reading and science MCAs (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments). The results of these exams inform us of the yearly progress of individuals and the school and help teachers to respond with precision to the learning needs of each student.
How can you help your children prepare? Read together every day. Discuss as you read: ask questions, share personal reactions and connections: go deep. Encourage your child to keep up with math homework. Practice basic math facts. The upcoming Science Fair and Read-a-Thon are also great way to connect learning at home and school.
Thank you for your kind words about my decision to retire. Leaving St. Anthony Park was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make. This is an amazing school and community; I have been honored to be your principal.
See you at conferences!
