ODE TO THE ROAD
highways_copy
Welcome to fifth grade. This year our theme is Ode to the Road. As a fifth grade team we plan to learn together, and have many adventures on our road to discovery. We will be guided by the fifth grade teachers,
Mr. Olmsted, Mrs. Polfliet and Ms. James. Although many of the roads we encounter may divide, or become rocky and steep, we will learn how to forge ahead, put on different shoes and sandals, step over obstacles, or read signs and maps to find a clearer message. We will attempt to inspire each other with enthusiasm, hard work and a positive attitude.

The road to discovery often begins with the first step. As a fifth grade team, we are on our way.

Camp St. Croix
We have confirmed the dates of April 28, 29 and 30 of 2010 for students to attend Camp St. Croix in Hudson, Wisconsin. The emphasis of this experience will be community building, becoming aware of our impact on the environment, and experiencing the natural setting of the St. Croix area. We will send out payment plans in early January.  There may be opportunities for the students and parents to raise money for the additional programs of the climbing wall and predator/prey. We will meet in the spring with students, parents and potential chaperones in order to pass out packing lists, choose cabin groups and study groups, and talk about zero waste in the large family style cafeteria at camp. We look forward to our 15th year of this fantastic learning experience.

Camp St. Croix
The fifth grade class will attend Camp St. Croix on April 28.29.30, 2010. The students will enjoy a variety of classes and activities including orienteering, outdoor survival, climbing tower and predator/prey. More information will appear after the first conference.

Dwelling Project
The fifth grade Dwelling Research Project begins in April and conclude with a fantastic paper, model and speech during May. Expectations, suggestions of topics to research, and a timeline for completed work will be sent home on the first day of the project.
